Our dance in education work currently falls into the following strands:

- DANCE IN SCHOOLS

We work with schools to develop bespoke projects / sessions to meet their needs.  For example, developing physical literacy or bringing subject areas to life.

Following a recent project with Llanfaes CP School, Mr Davies (the Head) said the following:

Llanfaes CP School participated in taster sessions led by Powys Dance. It was clear from the sessions that Powys Dance is an innovative, creative and inspiring programme for children and young people. All children in our school, aged 4-11 years, thoroughly enjoyed the session with Rhian. Pupils were engaged, motivated and inspired by the music provided, modelling, and support from Rhian. The taster sessions supported areas of the current curriculum including P.E and literacy strands. In addition to this, the one-hour session also developed vital skills such as thinking, communication and working together. Some activities were also linked to class topics, for example Year 5 created and performed a dance about superheroes. This link between dance and topic motivated and engaged children further. Rhian was excellent with all classes, setting her expectations and explaining tasks clearly. Throughout the sessions children responded positively and all pupils were willing to participate. The quick pace and variety of activities ensured all children were motivated and engaged at all times. After the workshop pupils and staff commented on how fun and energising the session was. One child stated ‘when you said we were going to be doing dance, I didn’t really want to do it but it wasn’t what I thought it would be. It was so much fun! The best P.E lesson we’ve had.’
It was very impressive what the children achieved in a short space of time, from creating to performing a whole class dance. The session has provided staff with new ideas and activities that can be incorporated into P.E lessons across the primary school.
I would like to thank Powys Dance for coming into school to work with staff and children. Additionally, I look forward to working with you in the near future, continuing to develop confident, healthy and happy individuals.

- After School Clubs

Following taster sessions in south Powys primaries, we are now setting up new after school clubs.  If you would like to find out if an after school club would work at your school, please get in touch.

 - 5 x 60 Activity

Through its Climbing Higher vision, the Welsh Assembly Government has laid down the fitness gauntlet by setting the target of seeing 90% of children taking part in regular and frequent activity by 2020.

We support the work of Powys County Council Sports Development team on 5 x 60 activity by delivering dance in high schools.  We are also currently leading a 5 x 60 dance project in south Powys primaries.

 - Touring Shows

Every two years we produce a show that tours schools in Powys.  We make shows that are aligned to the curriculum and aim to inspire learning. In 2016, FLYING ATOMS flew into over 20 schools in Powys, and was performed to over 1,000 learners.
